It once again shared its mechanical design and platform with the cadillac eldorado and oldsmobile toronado. The design featured full-cut wheel openings, sweeping quarter panels, and a fully independent suspension. The riviera became the 1979 motor trend's car of the year. Considering other american luxury-performance machines of the time, the buick was one of the best. It had luxury, low weight, superior performance, and style. This 1979 riviera uses the 5. 7l v8 350-ci, 155-horsepower engine mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. The interior of this riviera clearly has luxury as its main focus.
